Chesterton is the third most deprived school in Wandsworth and the most improved school in south London. It?s very multicultural with 88.9% of pupils from ethnic minorities. Approximately 65% of pupils are entitled to free school meals which is well above average and 64% have English as an additional language. Many pupils come from refugee and asylum seeker families living in local temporary housing so many leave and join the school at times other than the norm. The school took part last year and would love to be involved again.
Project: A team of volunteers is needed to build a new garden. The school has recently finished a large building project and as part of this has a new garden but it?s not planted. Tasks include: creating a path with sleepers; digging a pond and fixing a liner; create seating area; planting vines along the back fence; painting metal fence.
Another team is needed for work in the reception playground. Tasks include: putting up trellis; filling planters with compost and plants; creating a sensory garden.
