Kids Company - (Day Trip) Volunteers: 22 - 30 E10 7BH Kids Company is a registered charity founded in 1996 in order to provide practical and emotional support to ?lone children?. These are children and young people who experience significant psychosocial difficulties because their parent is unable to function as a caring adult. Our services are delivered through three key channels: in 33 schools across London, a children?s centre in South London and a post-16 educational site. Willow Brook Primary School is one of the schools that Kids Company has a presence. It is a very large school situated in an urban area with significant elements of social and economic deprivation. Most pupils are from a variety of different minority ethnic backgrounds. Almost two thirds speak English as an additional language. The percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals is very high. Two fifths of pupils have learning difficulties or disabilities, which is high. Most of these are moderate learning or social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The school has an award for promoting healthy lifestyles. Attainment on entry is well below expectations. Project: Volunteers are required to facilitate a trip for 60 children from this inner-city primary school to Willows Farm, St Albans. This trip is designed to give a group of children an amazing experience on a farm, meeting and playing with animals but also the opportunity to play in amazing surroundings. Volunteers are there to support the children and to provide much needed adult attention. Many of the children Kids Company work with receive little adult attention and volunteering days are proven to be fun and rewarding for both adults and children. Volunteers will need to arrive at the school by 9am for a child protection and health and safety briefing. Volunteers will need to bring their own lunch. The nearest tube station is Leyton. Project costs: Budget required to cover entrance fees and coaches (approx ?1,400) |
